Car Registration / Renewal-Dubai
You need to renew your car registration once every year. If you have purchased a new vehicle, the dealer will handle all formalities for the first year. From the second year onwards, you will have to renew your car registration.
You can also renew your car registration from selected insurance companies. These include Noor Takaful, Oman Insurance, Fujairah Insurance & Royal & Sun Insurance. The insurance companies would be using the same procedure and online facilities to provide the service that are being used by the RTA’s customer service centres and other approved agents like Tasjeel, Tamam etc.
Documents Required:
1. Motor vehicle insurance certificate. Insurance can be taken from insurance companies such as Qatar Insurance Company, Tel. 04-2224045
2. Old registration card
3. Passed car test certificate (only if the car is older than 3 years)
4. Pay outstanding traffic fines (if any)
5. Pay vehicle registration/renew fees
Procedure:
1. Settle the payment of fines (if found); you can check and pay any fine at the Dubai Police website.
2. Go to Dubai Traffic Department /other emirates traffic department or to (Tasjeel Eppco, Emarat Shamil, Cars Vehicle Testing Centre or Belhasa’s Wasel to have the car tested
3. Pay the fees
4. Wait for your registration card (valid for one year). In case your car is no longer financed by a bank, show the bank clearance certificate.
5. Take a sticker with the new registration expiry date and place it over the old one (on the rear number plate)

NOTE:
+ New vehicles are exempted from test for 2 consecutive years.
+ Some companies will do all procedures for an additional fee, including collecting and returning the vehicle to you. You can also check with your insurance company, since many have introduced a free/paid service.

Vehicle registration renewal Onine Procedures in UAE
A grace period of 30 days after the vehicle registration has expired, during which the car owner is required to renew the vehicle insurance and registration. In case the individual fails to renew the registration during the grace period, a charge of Dh35 per month is levied by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai. This is applicable even if an individual wishes to sell the car.
At the time of selling the car, the owner of a vehicle is required to pay any fines that may have been levied on the vehicle before the transfer of ownership process can be started.
The registration of a car is valid for one year in Dubai, after which vehicle owners are required to renew it.
Late renewal fines in other Emirates
Ministry of Interior (MOI), which manages vehicle licensing services in other emirates, imposes a fine of Dh10 per month.
Caught while driving a vehicle with an expired registration
If a car is driven on UAE roads, which does not have a valid registration, the violators will be fined Dh500 and four black points recorded against their licence. The vehicles will also be impounded for seven days, as per Article 25B of Road Traffic Law (driving a vehicle with expired licence).
How to check vehicle registration expiry?
In Dubai, visit www.rta.ae
Choose the ‘check vehicle expiry’ service (home page) and enter your car details.
The website will provide your vehicle expiry date.

What is the process?
Step 1: Apply for Auto insurance.
You need to have a 13-month auto insurance in place before your apply for registration renewal.
Once you pay for the auto insurance, your insurance provider will update the system and you can proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Log in to update vehicle registration online.
Depending on the emirate in which your vehicle is registered, visit the website of the authority (RTA, Abu Dhabi Police or Ministry of Interior).
Enter your Emirates ID details, vehicle registration details and personal details.
Step 3: Make Payment using online payment method
Step 4: Complete the process
Once you have made the payment, your registration renewal will be complete and updated on the authority’s system.
